Antony and Cleopatra

Antony and Cleopatra was the second international collaboration between Tom and  Egyptian Director, producer Beshoy Adel Makram.  Tom and Beshoy's initial partnership was formed with both attended  the Tandem Shamel programme in 2016 when they developed The Al Akl Theatre Festival. 

Antony and Cleopatra took place in 2018 during a three week residency in Minya, Egypt.  Tom and Beshoy worked on a bi-lingual production of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, performed in old English and Ancient Arabic, the production involved 20 emerging actors from Minya. 

Supported by Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The British Council , Tom worked with the actors with the support of local translator Ghada Nady Khalil and Egyptian set and costume designer Caroline Bahr.

The project  cumulated in a full length production performed on a barge on the River Nile, in Minya.
